Penobscot’s monthly musical event, The Music Buffet, is held once a month on Fridays in the annex of the Penobscot United Methodist Church. All are welcome to come hear and share a wide variety of music during the open-mic hour beginning at 7 p.m.. Since its inception in January of 2010, hundreds of open-mic and featured performers, ranging from age 3 to 83, on all manner of instruments, have contributed a virtual smorgasbord of music: blues to bluegrass; reels to rock; classics to classical; sing-along to dance-along; original to traditional; and jazz to jugband. Over 30 different featured acts have included established “pros” as well as other talented acts from our peninsula and “away”. Founder, former co-host, and musician Skip Bean says, “Don’t be shy. Our audiences warmly receive all performers regardless of experience.”
The Music Buffet continues to satisfy not only a wide variety of musical tastes, but serves a higher purpose as well. A free-will donation is collected each month, with all money going to a community fuel assistance fund and the Tree of Life Food Pantry in Blue Hill. Thanks to the generosity of the audiences and performers, the noteworthy milestone of $10,000 has been passed and we are hoping to reach $20,000 by our centennial month, May 2018.
