Public discussion of School Sustainment findings postponed to snow date: Thursday, February 8, at 6:30 pm, at the school

A public discussion will be held at the Penobscot Community School on Wednesday, February 7, at 6:30 pm (snow date February 8), to look at the findings of the recently completed School Sustainment study. The town’s School Sustainment Team will summarize their report on options to increase enrollment, reduce school costs, and respond to a further decline in enrollment. The meeting will provide opportunities to discuss recommendations from the report. Small-group discussions will focus on promotion of the school, energy efficiency, working with the owners of the former nursing home to develop it for housing and/or employment, and the future of middle-grade education on the peninsula.

The School Sustainment Team is part of the People’s Forum of Penobscot, a group of citizens who use a problem-solving approach to conduct unbiased, fact-based analyses of issues facing our town, as requested by the selectmen.
