Tuesday night July 16th, The Penobscot Internet Committee reviewed and evaluated proposals from four (4) companies to build a fiber-optic high-speed broadband internet system in Penobscot. The committee has decided to proceed with a proposal from GWI (Great Works Internet of Biddeford, Maine). Construction would be financed by government loans or private investment, not local taxation. Penobscot needs to demonstrate a commitment to GWI. They have asked that we show that commitment by completely the following three-question survey:
This is the first step in bringing affordable, high-speed internet to our town. In future, public meetings will be held to explain the fiber-optic network and its benefits and the construction process.
